That was the headline on the morning of February 20, 2021. A 10-inch gas line running along the bridge’s side ruptured and caused a fire with 20- to 30-foot flames creating extensive structural damage. It was determined that approximately 35% of the bridge would need to be removed and rebuilt. This was an emergency that needed traffic control and closures to the bridge and surrounding roadways. Trafficade was immediately contacted by the City of Phoenix, and our Traffic Control & Barricade Service division was dispatched to the scene. Until the bridge can be rebuilt and opened, traffic control has been restricted or rerouted on all surrounding roadways to ensure safe and streamlined navigation around the work zone. The City of Phoenix expects the bridge will be closed for at least six months.
